Best Dive Knives: Reviews

Promate Scuba Diving Knife

Our Pick
Scuba Diving Snorkeling Sharp Tip Stainless Steel Knife (5
9.4/10Our Score
  • Promate barracuda sharp tip scuba diving knife (5" blade)

This high-quality yet affordable diving knife made out of durable materials is easy to maintain and is highly functional. So let’s take a closer look.

Review

This is a really nice diving knife with a 5” stainless steel blade (10.5” overall length). It is very durable, features a very sharp edge with excellent edge retention, so it won’t go dull after cutting a few ropes or fishing lines. In terms of the blade style, it features a dual-edge, with one side being flat and the other being serrated.

The flat edge features a fishing line and seatbelt cutter near the hilt, just for some added functionality. Between the flat edge, the serrated edge, and the line cutter, there is not much that this knife cannot do.

The stainless steel pommel doubles as a hammer that can be used for smashing glass, for repairs, and for self-defense if needed. We do also think this knife looks really cool.

What’s also worth mentioning is that the Promate Scuba Knife enables you to disconnect the blade from the handle for easy cleaning. The handle is quite durable, but the really great part is the ergonomic grip pattern. In addition, this dive knife has a high-quality sheath with adjustable buckle straps to allow for a secure and easy fit, as well as excellent portability.

Pros

  • Quality steel
  • Great grip
  • Super functional blade
  • Easy to clean and maintain
  • Great sheath with adjustable straps
  • Good price

Cons

The connection between the handle and blade is a weak point

If you are looking for a high-quality, functional, durable, and portable diving knife, this is a great one to consider, especially if you don’t want to spend a fortune. This model has some cool features.

Review

First, this knife comes with two different types of sheaths. One is nylon, and the other is an ABS ballistic plastic sheath. Both are designed to be strapped to your legs, keeping them out of the way as you dive. In addition, the sheaths have adjustable straps, so you can achieve a secure fit.

This is a convenient diving knife with a 4” blade and an overall length of 8.5”. It’s pretty small, which means that it’s very portable and it will stay out of your way, not to mention the fact that it’s also not very heavy.

The blade itself is made of high-quality 420C stainless steel. In terms of steel used for a diving knife, this is one of the best because it is extremely hard and durable. This means that it will be difficult for it to get dull with regular use. In addition, this type of steel is also rustproof, which is essential when it comes to scuba diving.

Moreover, it has both flat and serrated edges, as well as a fishing line cutter. Finally, the handle or pommel features a pointed metal edge which can be used as a hammer or glass smasher.

The handle grip is made with paracord, which provides a secure area to hold onto; the cord can be taken off the handle if you need a short length of rope.

Pros

  • Lightweight and portable
  • Multi-functional
  • 2 sheaths included
  • High-quality steel – totally rustproof
  • Great edge retention

Cons

It can be difficult to remove from the sheath

TUSA FK-940 X-Part II Titanium Dive Knife

TUSA FK-940 X-Ppert II Titanium Dive Knife, Metallic Dark Red
  • 6-4ti (ti-6al-4v) highly corrosion resistant titanium drop point blade
  • Newly designed ergonomic grip with counterweight
  • Includes a serrated edge plus a line cutter
  • Single button sheath lock release
  • Easy-to-adjust buckle and strap allow for a comfortable fit

For is a high-quality diving knife that features a nearly indestructible blade, this is an excellent option. It may not be particularly cheap, but we think that it is well worth the investment.

Review

The standout feature is that the knife has a high-quality, durable, and wear-resistant 6-4Ti (Ti-6Al-4V) titanium blade. When it comes down to it, titanium is one of the toughest, hardest, and most durable metals used in knife construction.

The blade on this knife won’t crack, chip, bend, or snap, and the edge should stay sharp for a long time, even with constant use. Simply put, you would be hard-pressed to find a better diving knife material than titanium. In addition, this knife features a flat edge and a serrated edge on the reverse side of the blade and a fishing line or seatbelt cutter on the reverse side.

Something else we really like is the ergonomic handle that is both easy and comfortable to hold for prolonged periods. In addition, this handle has a counterweight to make sure that the knife is perfectly balanced in your hands.

Finally, this knife also comes with a high-quality sheath with a special button-release feature. This makes sure that your knife never comes out of the sheath when you don’t want it to and so that you can easily release it when you need it. In addition, the sheath has adjustable buckles, so you can securely strap it onto your leg.

Pros

  • Superior durability
  • Great edge retention
  • Won’t rust
  • Very well-built handle
  • Great balance
  • Nice sheath

Cons

  • Not exactly cheap
  • Locking mechanism can have issues at times

TUSA FK-910/920 X-Pert II Dive Knife

TUSA FK-920 X-Pert II Dive Knife, Blunt Tip, Cobalt Blue
  • 420 stainless steel blade
  • Fk-910 features a drop point blade, fk-920 features a blunt tip blade
  • Newly designed ergonomic grip with counterweight
  • Includes a serrated edge plus a line cutter
  • Single button sheath lock release

If you liked the design and brand of diving knife that we looked at above but don’t want to spend quite as much money, this is a good alternative. Realistically, this is the more affordable version of the knife reviewed above.

Review

This diving knife features a 4.5” 420C stainless steel blade (unlike the titanium blade which the other model has). Now, 420C stainless steel might not be quite as good as titanium, but it still holds its own. It should not bend, crack, or chip with everyday use, plus it is rustproof.

What is also great is that you can get this knife in a drop point or blunt tip, not to mention that it features a dual-edge, with one side being flat and the other serrated; it also has a fishing line cutter built into the backside of the blade. The rear of the handle can be used to smash glass.

We think that the size of this knife is ideal for diving, as is the weight. It weighs about 0.75 pounds and is less than a foot in length, thus allowing for great lightweight portability. Other than the blade composition, this knife and the one above are virtually the same, and this includes the counterweighted ergonomic handle and the button lock release sheath.

Pros

  • Great durability
  • Good edge retention
  • Multi-functional
  • Two tip styles to choose from
  • Ergonomically counterweighted handle
  • Rustproof
  • Nice sheath with button lock

Cons

Not quite as durable as the titanium model

Gerber CrossRiver Knife

CrossRiver Saltwater Fixed Blade Knife
  • Optimized to withstand harsh saltwater environments with added corrosion-resistant protection
  • Full-tang 3 in. stainless steel blade includes both fine edge and flat top serrations
  • Fishing knife features hydrotread grip with raised sections that channel moisture away for firm grip
  • Ambidextrous trigger lock releases fishing knife quickly and securely
  • Multi-mount sheath can be worn on a belt or pfd, with an additional lanyard hole

This is a very small and affordable knife designed for use with inflatables. In other words, it’s an excellent little knife that should not pop your inflatable.

Review

This knife features a very short blade made out of corrosion-resistant 420 HC steel. When it comes to durable, hard, and strong types of steel that won’t rust, this type of high-carbon steel is one of the best. This is a dual-edge blade, with most of both edges being serrated, although the serrations on one side are different than on the other.

Moreover, the tip of one blade edge has a flat edge. The knife does not have a sharp tip, but it’s perfect for cutting rope and getting out of trouble. It weighs 0.3 pounds, making it the lightest on our list.

We like how this knife features a glass-filled nylon handle, as it has a good mix of lightweight durability. Finally, you also get a PDF-compatible sheath. Although this might not be the biggest or best knife on the list today, it is very convenient, portable, and affordable, not to mention that it gets the job done just fine.

Pros

  • Portable
  • Affordable
  • Durable steel
  • Lightweight
  • PDF compatible sheath
  • Made in the US

Cons

  • No glass smasher
  • No fishing line cutter
  • Not much of a flat edge – mostly serrated

Conclusion

There is no doubt that the TUSA FK-940 X-Pert II Titanium Dive Knife the best dive knife on our list today, and this is true in every way possible, well, except for the relatively high price tag.
